See soft tissue surgeries for more info.
Callus and Corns
Callus and corns are thickened hard skin on the foot, due to repeating friction and pressure on certain areas. A biomechanical assessment and gait analysis from our chiropodist might be required to find out the cause of it.
In terms of treatment, debriding and enucleating all these thickened hard skin on the foot helps to reduce excessive pressure and friction on the foot, and hence reduce discomfort/pain while weight-bearing. This also helps diabetic patients to prevent wounds/ulcers.
After the removal, our chiropodist will also help offloading the pressure/friction on these areas by providing footwear advise, moisturizing cream or compounds application, padding & strapping, custom orthotics, orthopedic shoes. See medical products for more info.
Plantar Warts/Verrucae
Plantar Warts/Verrucae are HPV (viral) infection in the skin. The virus normally enters the skin from small cuts on the feet. They usually locate on highly weight-bearing areas.
In terms of treatments, our chiropodist will first debride the built up thickening skin on top of the warts, then there will be options of applying different types of topical chemicals, offloading, and surgical procedures such as Faulknor's Needling and excision. See soft tissue procedures for more info.
Other Dermatological Conditions
Our chiropodist will also assess and provide management plans for other skin problems such as dermatitis/eczema, Athlete's foot/fungal infection, psoriasis, anhidrotic skin and heel fissuring,...etc. Management plans including topical medication prescriptions, cream/compound application, debridement, wet wrap therapy, and referrals.
Circulation problems
Arterial problems such as blood flow, cold feet, blockages, chilblains, raynaud's, COVID toes, PAD could cause some serious complications to the feet. To prevent them, it is important to make management plans. Our chiropodist will assess the arterial supply on your feet by palpating the pulses and using an ultrasound vascular doppler to hear the pulses.
Venous insufficiency happens when the blood do not flow back up to the heart. Our chiropodist will assess and provide education, compression therapy/compression stockings (see medical products for more info), and make referrals.
Foot Joint Mobilization
Stiff joints can cause by previous trauma, age/degeneration, post surgery, and some certain medical conditions. Our chiropodist will first conduct a biomechanical assessment and gait analysis to check the range of motion in the joints of your foot. Regular subsequent visits for foot mobilization helps to increase the range of motion helps with stiff, and painful/discomfort joints.
Foot Neuropathy
Neuropathies affect the nerve fibers and the main types of neuropathy are sensory, motor, and autonomic neuropathy. There are many causes, including diabetes, trauma, hereditary, and some certain medical conditions.
It is important for our chiropodist to conduct a neurological assessment to find it out and prevent some serious complications. Management include education, and referral for nerve conduction test/medications/acupuncture.
